History: the Catalan cork industry boomed at the beginning of the 20th century. In the Baix Empordá region alone, it employed more than 10,000 people. It was hard to find a family in which there was no-one connected with the industry. Historical records show that the ancestors of the company’s current owners worked in the industry.
In 1960, after gaining experience in various companies, Victor Turont Vazquez went into business by himself. At first he worked out of the family home in Palafrugell. He soon found more suitable facilities for the business.
His sons JAVIER (1961) and VICTOR (1965) joined the family company after they completed their education.
In a 1992, they set up the current company with the name it now has. They moved the business to larger premises in Gualta. The business focussed on manufacturing and marketing natural corks for still wines.
In a 2000, after purchasing 9,000 m2 of land in Forallac Industrial Estate and building 2,500 m2 of facilities there, the business moved to Vulpellac.
In 2007, the company had the opportunity to buy MAURI CORK SL, a cork stopper manufacturer based in Palafrugell together with all of its goodwill, premises, facilities and machinery.
In 2011, a decision was taken to merge the latter’s business its parent company, IMPERIAL CORK, and keep MAURI CORK as a trade name.
